Microneedling: Your Skin’s Regeneration Boost
As we age, our skin’s natural renewal process begins to slow. Collagen and elastin production gradually decline, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation changes, and a loss of firmness.
While topical creams and serums can hydrate the skin’s surface, their active ingredients often struggle to reach the deeper, living layers where true rejuvenation occurs — the molecules are simply too large to pass through the skin’s protective barrier.
Microneedling helps bridge that gap by offering a two-fold effect. Firstly, by creating thousands of tiny, controlled microchannels, this treatment enhances the absorption and effectiveness of serums, allowing nutrients to reach where they’re needed most.
Secondly, these micro-injuries also activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms, encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin. The result? Skin that looks smoother, fresher, and more radiant over time.
Microneedling may help improve the appearance of:
- Mild to moderate acne scarring
- New or old scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sagging or lax skin
- Uneven skin texture
- Enlarged pores
- Stretch marks
- Dull or lack-lustre skin
- Dryness and dehydration
- Pigmentation and sun damage
Safety and Suitability
Microneedling is generally safe for most skin types when performed by a qualified professional. However, it is not recommended for individuals who:
- Have used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past three months
- Have open wounds, active skin infections, or lesions in the treatment area
- Have undergone radiation therapy to the area within the past year
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, or delayed wound healing
- Are experiencing active acne or heightened stress levels that impact skin healing
What to Expect During Treatment
Most clients describe the sensation as mild to moderate discomfort rather than pain. A topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to ensure comfort.
Protocol
Although you may receive a noticeable effect from just one treatment, the recommended treatment plan is three treatments, approximately four to six weeks apart. If you are trying to reduce dark pigmentation, you may need further treatments, as this concern takes longer to address.
Topical serums
The use of topical serums, massaged in post-needling, can complement the treatment by providing additional benefits such as increased moisture and hydration, reduction of pigmentation, promotion of collagen production, and increase in skin firmness, reduced inflammation, a reduction in the appearance of pores and protect against further environmental damage.
The choice of serum will vary depending on individual skin concerns and goals.
Downtime
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure, but because it stimulates your skin's natural healing response, some temporary effects and aftercare are expected.
Immediately after treatment it is normal for your skin to appear read and feel warm or slightly tight - similar to mild sunburn. Some individuals may experience slight swelling or pinpoint bleeding, but these effects usually subside within 24 to 48 hours.
There is minimal downtime associated with microneedling, meaning you can fit this powerhouse treatment easily into your regular skin routine.
